3 Natural Remedies for Removing Fleas and Ticks

If you share your residence with some magnificent friendly canines, then it is natural for fleas and ticks to find their way into your home. Your pets will carry these vermin on their skin or fur and transfer them to all the places they visit. Here are three natural remedies for removing fleas and ticks without using any harsh chemicals. These remedies are both effective and cost-efficient.

Diatomaceous earth

  • Deadly to insects and bugs and harmless to pets, diatomaceous earth is a non-toxic white powdery substance that resembles dirt.
  • It is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock dust.
  • Ideal for killing not merely fleas and ticks, but also their larvae, diatomaceous earth works by dehydrating and parching them.
  • Sprinkle this powder on your pet’s fur and rub it in. Do this outside your house in the yard or garage because though not dangerous, when it falls into the eyes or is inhaled, diatomaceous earth can irritate the skin.
  • You could take your pet’s bedding and toys outside the house and sprinkle this natural substance liberally over them. Leave them under the hot sun if possible for a few hours, and then thoroughly vacuum everything.
  • Diatomaceous earth does not just eliminate fleas and ticks but additionally acts as a chemical-free deodorizer too.

Vinegar plus water

  • Both distilled white vinegar and apple cider vinegar work wonders as natural remedies for removing fleas and ticks.
  • Simply fill a clean spray bottle with any one of the kinds of vinegar and clean water in the ratio 1:1. But if your pet does not enjoy the smell of this solution, then dilute the vinegar in a 1:2 or 1:3 ratio with water being the more significant component.
  • Most effective and safe in these ratios, the vinegar spray can either be spritzed on your dog, or a clean cloth can be dipped in this solution and rubbed onto your pet.
  • Remember to avoid his face, especially his eyes and ears, and any open wound or damaged skin because vinegar can cause a sharp tingling or burning sensation when sprayed on these places.
  • Let your pet air dry, there is no need to bathe him after doing this.
  • Ideally, after spraying him with the vinegar solution, you could take your dog for a walk or let him play in the garden. However, before bringing him back into the house, comb him thoroughly to make sure fleas and ticks fall out.

A mixture of lemon, salt, rosemary essential oil, and water

  • In a clean bowl, squeeze the juice of lemon (cut and add the rind too), put in a teaspoon of rock salt crystals, add a drop of the essential oil, add a liter of water, cover, and allow this mixture to steep overnight.
  • The next morning, give this solution a proper mix, filter, and fill it into a clean spray bottle and voila! Your flea and tick remedy is ready.
  • Use this to massage your dog thoroughly, from his fur right till his skin, before you permit him to walk on the trails or enjoy a game of ball in your yard.
  • This fresh, citrusy remedy for ticks and fleas is natural, home-made, and safe to be used on your pet and also on his bed and toys.
